The monument is a caravel of white limestone, on the nose of which stands the figure of the mastermind of Portuguese geographical discoveries - the Infant Heinrich the Navigator. Behind him, on both sides, there are 32 more figures of outstanding personalities of that era, including Vasco da Gama and Fernand Magellan.
