XIV by royal decree of King Dom Pedro I and it remained that way until the 19th century. XIX with the arrival of the Portuguese royal family, King Dom Luís and his wife Dona Maria Pia de Saboia, which became a summer village for the royal family and Portuguese nobles. Its typical fishermen's houses, the beaches bathed by the Atlantic and illuminated by the radiant Sun of Cascais give this town a unique charm which fell in love with European Kings during World War II who went into exile here in the town of Cascais and which led to a wave of popularity that was enjoyed by the rich and famous in Portugal and beyond.
