The Hippodrome of Constantinople, located in Istanbul, Turkey, was an ancient chariot racing and sports arena. It served as the center of entertainment, politics, and culture in the Byzantine Empire. Today, the area is known as Sultanahmet Square, and while the original structures are mostly gone, some monuments still stand: Obelisk of Theodosius: An ancient Egyptian obelisk brought to Constantinople and re-erected in the Hippodrome by Emperor Theodosius in the 4th century. It stands as one of the oldest and most well-preserved monuments in the square. Serpentine Column: Also known as the Delphi Tripod, this is an ancient Greek bronze column with intertwined serpent heads. It was originally erected at the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, Greece, and was moved to the Hippodrome in the 4th century. Walled Obelisk: This is another obelisk, also erected in the Hippodrome by Emperor Constantine VII in the 10th century.
