   St. Patrick’s Well

   The tour includes a visit to St Patrick’s Well. Carved in the tuff, it will impress you with its over 200-foot depth and the remarkably intertwined staircases that never meet. It was dug in the XVI century to guarantee a supply of water to its citizens all year round in case of calamity. It is a hydraulic masterpiece!

   Orvieto Cathedral

   The main highlight is the Gothic Cathedral. Its multicolored façade is covered with dazzling mosaics and splendid bas-reliefs. The interior contains the relics of the Miracle of Bolsena and incomparable frescoes of the “Apocalypse” by Fra Angelico and Luca Signorelli‘s “Day of Judgment” and” Life after Death.” These masterpieces will surprise you entering St. Brizio Chapel, as they surprised Michelangelo, who studied Signorelli’s work and took inspiration for the Sistine Chapel. The celestial “Madonna with the Child and Angels” and infinite other great masterpieces cover all the Cathedral inside and outside. The Papal Palace across the square, a monumental Gothic structure, was a residence for the Popes. Strolling around the town, you may admire many Renaissance and Gothic Palaces ( all from the outside).

   Discover with your private guide what is hidden below this peculiar town: columbaria, quarries, ravines, an underground medieval oil mill, and more! The underground caves date back to the Etruscan period, 5th Century B.C., when they had to dig deep wells to find water. Over the centuries, the Caves were used for different purposes and then dismissed until 1970, when archeologists discovered them.
