Sintra was, in the 19th century, one of the first cribs of Romantic architecture in Europe. Designed and built in the course of the late eight centuries, it reflects the sensitivity and cultural, philosophical and scientific interests of the Owner, António Augusto de Carvalho Monteiro (1848-1920), allied with the virtuosism of Italian architect-cenographer Luigi Manini (1848-1936).
