   Águas Livres Aqueduct

   A view over the Aqueduct of Aguas Livres, where you will see the highest arc of the World. The Águas Livres Aqueduct is a historic aqueduct in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. It is one of the most remarkable examples of 18th-century Portuguese engineering. The main course of the aqueduct covers 18 km, but the whole network of canals reaches nearly 58 km. Lisbon had always suffered from a lack of drinking water. Thus, King John V decided to build an aqueduct to bring water from sources in the parish of Caneças, in the modern municipality of Odivelas. The project was paid for by a sales tax on beef, olive oil, wine, and other products.

   Stop and see the Monastery of Jerónimos, a fundamental work of Manueline architecture, it is classified as a National Monument and inscribed, since 1983, on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Built by D. Manuel I as the Royal Pantheon and Monastery of the Order of St. Jerome, it is also known as the Monastery of St. Mary of Belém. Then it is possible to stop near the Tower of Belém, a construction began in 1514 and was completed in 1520. As a symbol of the King's prestige, its decoration displays the Manueline's own symbolism – calabres that surround the building, finishing it with elegant knots, armillary spheres, crosses of the Military Order of Christ and naturalistic elements.    Basilica da Estrela

   Also known as the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it is one of the most important monuments of the 17th century. XVIII, in Lisbon. The Baroque style is predominant throughout the building, although the central body of the facade is in neoclassical style.
