It included the Janiculum hill and the Vatican, which were located outside the city walls. Trastevere was home to numerous mills, baths, fields, and temples, and the ample space allowed for the development of many public housing projects. Tradition holds that the Basilica was built on the site of one of these homes where Cecilia lived.
