   National Sanctuary of Christ the King

   The monument popularly known as Cristo Rei,

   The monument popularly known as Cristo Rei, was inspired by Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon, Dom Manuel Gonçalves Cerejeira on a visit to the statue of Christ the Redeemer, existing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1934. The National Shrine of Christ the King was constituted by a portico designed by the architect António Lino. 75 meters high, topped by the statue of the Most Holy Redeemer with open arms facing the city of Lisbon, 28 meters high, the work of Portuguese sculptor Francisco Franco de Sousa. This monument offers the best view of the city of Lisbon and the 25 de Abril bridge.
