Go from 12th to 1st century - all in one place, just 30 feet apart (vertically)! Did you know that, beneath the surface of the modern city, there's a hidden and ancient world, just waiting to be discovered? So, jump on our time machine, we'll take you back to the Imperial Rome, to explore a true hidden gem: Saint Clement's church. As qualified tour guides of Rome, we can lead you to the Basilica from IV century and, then, descend to the I century city, where a pagan temple is still visible. We'll learn about the invasion of Robert the Guiscard, who destroyed the first old Basilica, dedicated to the 4th pope, Saint Clement. You'll be then fascinated by the story of Mithras, god from Persia, whose mysterious cult was widespread among soldiers and gladiators. This site of unexpected charme is so close to the Colosseum (just a few minutes walking)... great way to understand how Rome's street level has grown from the 1st century to nowadays and explore centuries of art and history.
