The city is located in a wide bay of golden sands and is in the shade of the imposing promontory of Sitio. Historically, this promontory provided shelter for the fishing fleet and the boats were anchored high in the sands, protected from the ferociousness of the ocean.

   Óbidos is the classic Portuguese fortified city, and is one of the most picturesque places in Portugal. Óbidos radiates Portuguese charm, from the narrow streets of paralelepipedes and picturesque houses to the imposing medieval castle, which protected the region.
