The region Žatec is not only a beautiful region at the foot of the Giant Mountains, but also interesting for its history and its connection to the Hussites in the Czech lands. It is also a place where the Sudeten Germans lived for centuries and they have left many interesting cultural artefacts here.
Why is high-quality Czech aromatic hops an essential ingredient for brewing beer and why has Czech beer made our country famous all over the world? What is the history of hops from the Middle Ages to the present day? These and other questions are answered by a unique exhibition of the Hop Museum in Zatec. The area of 4,000 m2 represents the development of hop cultivation from the early Middle Ages to the present day. In addition to the museum's interesting collections, you will get to know your own object, which is a technical monument and an example of industrial functional architecture from the late 19th century in the city known for the best hops in the world. You will learn why the best hops in the world are harvested in the Žatec region and why they have had to protect themselves from quality defects since the Middle Ages. You will be interested in historical photographs and written documents about hop cultivation and brewing. You will also find interesting tools, machines and historical machines here.
