Originally a neighborhood grocery store before becoming a bodega, La Palma grew into a bohemian meeting place for generations of local artists, painters, poets, and writers. Today, its wine barrels, marble counter, and old-world character preserve the spirit of those earlier days.    Family-run Bar La Plata opened in 1945 and 80 years later, little has changed. The tiny bar still serves the same four tapas that generations of Barcelonans have come here to eat. Taste two of its classics, Catalan botifarra and the bar’s famous freshly fried fish, alongside house wine traditionally enjoyed from a porrón. Don't know what that is? Great - that's why you're here. Meet the local legend Pepe Gómez. He first walked through La Plata’s doors in 1972 at just 14 years old. More than half a century later, Pepe is a Gothic Quarter institution in his own right and remains at the heart of La Plata.
