   End the day in Besalú, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Catalonia. Cross its 11th-century fortified bridge over the Fluvià River, with its gate tower in the middle, and step into a maze of cobbled streets and Romanesque churches such as the monastery church of Sant Pere. Your guide will tell you about the Jewish community that lived here in the Middle Ages, one of the most important in the region.
