   De Bijenkorf

   The building of the Amsterdam Central Station

   The building of the Amsterdam Central Station was built between 1881 and 1889, Amsterdam Centraal was designed by Pierre Cuypers, who is also known for his design of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

   Amsterdam was a project for a new ‘port city’ built at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th centuries. It comprises a network of canals to the west and south of the historic old town and the medieval port that encircled the old town and was accompanied by the repositioning inland of the city’s fortified boundaries, the Singelgracht.

   Dam Square

   Dam is the center of Amsterdam and is considered to be the heart of Amsterdam. The town square of Amsterdam estimates 100 by 200 metres. It owes its name from the dam it was build upon. The dam dates back from 1275, at a time when Amsterdam was still at sea and was a harbour city.
