National Palace of Queluz
Located just outside Lisbon, the Palácio de Queluz is a stunning example of 18th-century architecture and one of Portugal’s most elegant royal residences. Often referred to as the “Portuguese Versailles,” the palace blends Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles, reflecting the grandeur and sophistication of the period.
Originally built as a summer residence for Dom Pedro of Braganza, who later became king consort, the palace was a favorite retreat of the Portuguese royal family. It served both as a place of leisure and political power, especially during the reign of Queen Maria I.
Inside, visitors can admire lavishly decorated rooms such as the Throne Room, Ambassadors' Room, and Music Room, adorned with ornate gilding, mirrors, and fine artworks. The palace is surrounded by beautifully landscaped French-style gardens, featuring fountains, statues, and the charming Robillion Pavilion.
