En 62 apr. J.-C. un violent tremblement de terre a frappé la région du Vésuve. Dix-sept ans plus tard, le 24 août 79 après J.-C., l'éruption soudaine du Vésuve ensevelit Pompéi et Herculanum avec des cendres et du lapillus. Les villes ensevelies ont été redécouvertes au XVIe siècle, mais ce n’est qu’en 1748 que la phase d’exploration a commencé sous le roi de Naples Charles III de Bourbon. Nos guides vous feront revivre cette ancienne ville balnéaire. Après un beau voyage le long de la côte de Tirrenian, nous atteindrons Paestum. Ici le mythe et la légende coexistent. Le temple de Cérès, le temple de Neptune, l'amphithéâtre (un édifice typiquement romain) et le musée archéologique national, qui permet aux visiteurs retracer l’histoire grecque, lucanienne et romaine de la ville. Ici, un exemple unique de peinture grecque est conservé: le tombeau du plongeur.

    4. One of Italy's most majestic sights on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Paestum is a major ancient Greek city on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea in Magna Graecia. After its foundation by Greek colonists under the name of Poseidonia it was eventually conquered by the Lucanians and later by the Romans. The Lucanians renamed it to Paistos and in turn the Romans gave the city its current name. The ruins of the ancient Greek temples, dating back to the 6th century BC, which are in a very good state of preservation. Doric temples, which are thought to be dedicated to the city's namesake Poseidon (known to the Romans as Neptune), Hera and Ceres. The Temples of Neptune and Hera are located next to the Southern end of the site, while the smaller Temple of Ceres is at the Northern end.
