Galata Tower
The Galata Tower, one of Istanbul's most iconic landmarks, stands proudly in the heart of the city's historic district. Built in 1348 during the Genoese era, the tower has been a symbol of the city’s rich and diverse history for centuries. From the outside, the tower is a striking medieval stone structure that reaches 67 meters (220 feet) in height, dominating the skyline of the Galata district.
The robust, thick stone walls are designed for fortification, reflecting its original use as part of the defensive system for the Genoese colony. Surrounding the tower, you can feel the essence of Istanbul’s past, with narrow, winding streets and historic buildings adding to the ambiance.
At the top of the tower, a panoramic balcony offers visitors breathtaking 360-degree views of the Bosphorus, the Golden Horn, and the entire city. The exterior of the tower serves as a testament to the many civilizations that have left their mark on Istanbul, making it a must-see for history lovers.
