Taksim Square
Taksim Square is one of Istanbul's most famous and vibrant public squares, representing the modern spirit, cultural diversity, and energetic atmosphere of Türkiye's largest city.
Located in the heart of Istanbul's European side, Taksim Square is a major center for shopping, entertainment, cultural events, and social gatherings. Surrounded by lively streets, restaurants, cafés, hotels, and historical landmarks, the square attracts visitors from around the world.
At the center of the square stands the impressive Republic Monument (Cumhuriyet Anıtı), unveiled in 1928 to commemorate the founding of the Republic of Türkiye and honor Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
Taksim Square also serves as the gateway to the famous İstiklal Avenue, one of Istanbul's most popular pedestrian streets. Stretching toward the historic Galata neighborhood, this bustling avenue is lined with elegant 19th-century buildings.
