   Step inside one of the most awe-inspiring monuments of Ancient Rome—the Pantheon, originally built as a temple to all the gods and now a functioning church. Marvel at the Dome • Gaze upward at the massive concrete dome, still the largest unreinforced dome in the world. • The central oculus (a circular opening in the ceiling) lets in natural light—and sometimes rain—creating a dramatic play of light inside the rotunda. Admire the Architecture • Walk through the grand portico with its towering Corinthian columns made of Egyptian granite. • Step onto the marble floor, largely original from the 2nd century AD, and notice the intricate geometric designs.
