In the historic center of the romantic village of Sintra, Portugal, many buildings and traces from different eras and cultural movements remain. It encompasses a wide area of diverse heritage, including palaces, castles, farms and parks with different classifications.
Founded in 1195, it is one of the best preserved medieval villages, one of the jewels of Portugal. The interior of the wall is filled with houses whitewashed in white, blue and yellow, decorated with colorful flowers.
At the top of the small and charming historic town, the imposing Óbidos Castle (14th century) dominates the landscape. Churches, restaurants, handicraft shops and other businesses spread through the narrow streets of the walled village.
In 2007, Óbidos Castle took second place among the most relevant monuments of Portuguese architectural heritage, in the competition “the Seven Wonders of Portugal”.
