Its arcaded Plaça Major, one of the largest squares in the region, has hosted markets since the Middle Ages and still comes alive every Tuesday and Saturday. Enjoy free time to taste the local gastronomy, especially Vic’s famous cured sausages, with tips from your guide on where to eat.

   See the Cathedral of Sant Pere, where an 11th-century Romanesque bell tower stands beside a neoclassical church. Inside, the walls are covered with dramatic murals by the Catalan painter Josep Maria Sert.

   End the day in Besalú, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Catalonia. Cross its 11th-century fortified bridge over the Fluvià River, with its gate tower in the middle, and step into a maze of cobbled streets and Romanesque churches such as the monastery church of Sant Pere. Your guide will tell you about the Jewish community that lived here in the Middle Ages, one of the most important in the region.
