Tucked inside the Basilica of San Lorenzo, the Medici Chapels are one of Florence's most opulent mausoleums and a Renaissance must-see. The complex holds three extraordinary Michelangelo sculptures and the tombs of 49 Medici family members. Skip the line and step into this remarkable landmark. Dating from the 1500s–1600s, the two chapels were shaped by Michelangelo's genius for the Medici, Renaissance patrons and later Grand Dukes of Tuscany, drawing art lovers worldwide. Inside, a statue honors Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, the family's last descendant, who left the Medici art collection to Florence on one condition: that it stay open to the public forever. Highlights include the Sagrestia Nuova, Michelangelo's first architectural work, hinting at ideas he would later bring to St. Peter's Basilica. The tombs feature three sculptural groups: Dawn and Dusk, Night and Day, and the unfinished Madonna and Child. Your ticket also includes a digital audio guide to explore all of Florence.
