The Battle of the Somme took place from July to November 1916 and was one of the bloodiest conflicts in history, with over one million soldiers killed or wounded. Today, the area is a place of remembrance, marked by cemeteries, memorials, and preserved trenches. Visitors can explore sites such as Albert Town, Lochnagar crater, Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland site and its trenches, Thiepval British Memorial, Pozières ridge and Villers-Bretonneux Australian memorial, all of which honor the soldiers who fought and died there.
