The 22 thousand inhabitants of the village at the Markermeer have their own traditions, costumes, music, and dialect different from the rest of the Netherlands. Explore the picturesque village with its centuries-old typical houses, have a delicious fish lunch in one of the excellent restaurants at the dike, learn about 'palingroken' and even the 'palingsound' in the Volendam Museum, and watch the fishing boats in the port. Visit a cheese factory and learn how clogs are made from one of the last remaining clogs makers. It is also possible to take the boat to the charming island village of Marken.
