Inaugurated by Napoleon III in 1856, it was built in homage to the Crimean War. Serving as a marker to measure the floods of the Seine, the famous Zouave of the Pont de l'Alma was originally not alone, but accompanied by a grenadier, a foot hunter and an artilleryman, to honor the soldiers who had fought. The flame of liberty, located on the right bank, Place Diana, was offered to France by the United States in 1987. This flame is an exact replica of the one carried by the real Statue of Liberty in New York.

Opened in 1986 to provide a majestic setting for 19th century masterpieces, the Musée d’Orsay now houses the most important collection of Impressionist paintings in the world. Built for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, Orsay was originally a railway station serving the southwest of France. Contrary to what its architecture suggests, the Orsay structure required almost twice as much metal as the Eiffel Tower for its construction. Orsay also benefits from more than 35,000 m2 of glass roof, allowing natural light to penetrate.
