The dam, standing 55 meters high, was completed in 1932 and has the capacity to hold 6.25 million cubic meters of water. The dam extends to a small chapel from the 1500s dedicated to St. Christina, which is why the lake is sometimes referred to as the Lake of Santa Cristina.
