Cross the Arno as the light turns gold and step into Oltrarno, the side of Florence locals kept mostly to themselves and follow the same aperitivo-to-dinner route locals have used for generations. Visit a centuries-old fiaschetteria for local wine, a centuries-old wine window, one of the few in Florence still poured through exactly as it was during outbreaks of plague. Then a neighbourhood deli run by a man who's crowned himself King of Cheese, doling out his best pecorino and Parmigiano. A proper Negroni lesson inside a historic wine shop, a slow-braised stew alongside a glass of classic Tuscan wine. Finish with gelato at the spot Florentines themselves voted their favourite. 6-7 stops and a small group, so nothing about the evening feels rushed.

    Itinerario

    1. Your evening opens with a glass of Prosecco in one of Florence's liveliest squares, as golden light hits Santo Spirito's facade. From the outside, your guide points out the crucifix Michelangelo carved in secret as a teenager, still on view inside.

    2. Down a quiet backstreet, discover a cellar dating to the 12th century for a charcuterie board of cured meats, cheese tartare, and wine.

    3. Meet the neighbourhood's self-appointed King of Cheese, who'll walk you through two kinds of Pecorino and a wedge of Parmigiano.
